London Fashion Week Round Up

The Starworks London team had a super-busy time over London Fashion Week with a heady whirl of fashion shows, presentations, parties and VIPs to look after. Here’s a taster of where, when, who and what happened!

DAKS SS12

When: 9.00am, Saturday 17th September

 Where: BFC Show space

 What the Reviewers Said:

“Terrycloth romper suits carried the label’s house check and gave a playful air to proceedings, while the onesie added a sport luxe edge when incarnated as a sleek navy jumpsuit. But it wasn’t all fun in the sun – nodding to the unpredictability of British summertime, micro shorts were paired with rain coats or slouchy hooded tops, while calf-skimming skirts fell open to offer a cheeky glimpse at hotpants layered below, ready to take centre stage should the temperature soar.”  Vogue.co.uk

JULIEN MACDONALD SS12

When: 12.00pm 17th September 2011

Where: 29 Portland Place

What the Reviewers Said:

‘The highlight was easily the dresses, embellished with scales of blue and iridescent sequins, expertly embroidered black lace and beading and tiny yellow flowers – Macdonald always goes for high voltage glamour  – but he does well to allow pure skill and fabulous romance to show through too.’ Vogue.co.uk

‘Macdonald may love sex and romance, but the best idea here—great graphic-looking knits made with bright plastic thread—had nothing to do with either. The last outfit, seemed to synthesize the collection’s various elements in one exquisitely embroidered, neat package.’  Style.co.uk

JONATHAN SAUNDERS SS12

When: 7pm , Saturday 17th September

Where: 2 Kingdom Street, Paddington Central

 What the Reviewers Said:

“..restrained or racy, the key thing is the ever-more-accomplished craft with which Saunders is pursuing his vision. And it’s connecting—the audience for tonight’s show was full of women wearing his Fall collection.” Style.com

“Saunders is beginning to design in sync with the way women think—and that, when we get down to what matters in fashion, counts for just as much as ‘concept’ and ‘inspiration.’

“It all made sense, right through to a lingerie-influenced evening section of crewelwork embroidery on tulle. “Floaty but not fussy,” said one woman outside. And another, “You know what? That man just gets it.” Vogue.com

When: 8.00pm, Saturday 17th September

 ISSA SS12

Where: BFC Show space

What the Reviewers Said:

“Walking with a spring in her step – courtesy of vertiginous and neon heels – Issa’s girl had something for all her summer fun. Halter gowns, the tropics in sequin formation, fringed and fanciful party frocks and swimwear to show off a killer body.” Vogue.co.uk

“This season’s theme tapped into Helayel’s native Rio de Janeiro, which gave you pineapple and palm leaf prints on little suits and dresses—some in crisp woven cotton, new ground for the jersey girl.”  Style.com

When: 4pm, Sunday 18th September

MARIOS SCHWAB SS12

Where: BFC Tents, Somerset House

What the Reviewers Said:

“Marios Schwab struck precisely one note with his latest collection, but it was exactly the right one for him.” Style.com

The spirit of the powerful and enigmatic femmes fatales of film noir and neorealist cinema haunted Marios Schwab’s runway. Meanwhile, the dramatic chiaroscuro effects of the great cinematographers who lit those high-voltage stars’ arresting beauty were translated into intriguing layering of shadowy fabrics.” Vogue.com

PETER PILOTTO SS12

When: 09:00 Monday 19th September

Where: TOPSHOP Venue at the Old Eurostar Terminal, Waterloo Station

“Peter Pilotto is one of those labels that right now leads the new wave of fashion lights. This collection – which also marked a new collaboration with stylist and swimwear designer Lisa-Marie Fernandez – will enhance that some more.  Vogue.co.uk

“De Vos and Pilotto found a fresh way of engaging with the Spring ’12 tropical fetish; for one thing, their riff on aquatics and hothouse florals felt lived in, as opposed to merely referential.” Style.com

ROKSANDA ILINCIC SS12

When: 11.00am 20th September 2011

Where: Institute of Directors, 116 Pall Mall

 What the Reviewers Said:

‘She was as bold with colour as with shape – mustard tunic dresses belted in neon, or the same rich gold tone for a full skirt teamed with turquoise towelling top, or yet more of it embroidered with silk cornflowers – it was unapologetically sumptuous and expertly finished.’ Vogue.co.uk

‘Sporty couture is shaping up to be a big trend for Spring, but it’s something Roksanda Ilincic began injecting into her cocktail-y fare last season – Perhaps a more apt term would be sportswear couture. That means casual chic, exquisitely considered. That high-low merger isn’t a new concept, but when done right, it can be the ultimate in luxury.’ Style.com

MAN SS12

When: 10.30 21st  September 2011

Where: Royal Opera House

 What the Reviewers Said:

‘Menswear took centre stage as London Fashion Week bowed out in style yesterday…’ ‘Matthew Miller’s models stepped out in jackets crafted from what looked like tent groundsheets.’ Metro

‘…MAN provided a platform for three promising menswear designers with the support of Fashion East and Topman”

“…inspired by the surf and skate scene in Seventies California, Martine Rose’s collection featured fitted translucent shirts and narrow trousers layered over neon brights”

“Shaun Samson also credited surf scenes and grunge, this time those of Nineties California”

“…Matthew Miller who showed a collection of classic suits with a futuristic edge owed to the use of technical fabrics and blocks of neon colours against a palette of grey, navy and white” The Independent

JORDAN ASKILL

When: Monday 19 September between 14.30- 16.30

Where: NEWgen exhibition space: The Terrace at Somerset House

What the Reviewers Said:

“Askills jewellery is all about the fantastical- dreamlike parings of animals in silver, gold and crystal and for 2012 ethical amethyst (sourced via mining outfit Gemfields) Magical stuff” Time Out

“Australian sculptor and jewellery designer Jordan Askill continues his poetic oeuvre with an installation at TopShop’s NewGen exhibit at London Fashion Week. His exquisitely sculpted cuffs and a bust sat upon an LCD screen, alive with a stellar film created by Jordan’s brother’s Daniel and Lorin Askill.” AnOther Online

House of Hackney Nominated for British Design Award. Vote now!

Just six months after it launched, Hip homewares company House of Hackney (www.houseofhackney.com) has been nominated for a prestigious British Design Award  in the Best Pattern category for its ‘Dalston Rose’ Print. Here’s what the folks at ELLE Decoration (who organise the awards) had to say about it:

“Since House of Hackney burst on to the interiors scene earlier this year, it’s shaken up our preconceptions about chintz. Its ‘Dalston Rose’ design, which appears on everything from bed linen to wallpaper, tells a tale of  ‘dark romance and broken dreams’ and turns the idea of a traditional English rose on its head. The dip-dye effect adds a defiantly modern, on-trend finishing touch.”

We couldn’t agree more! Show your support for the brilliant design duo behind House of Hackney, Frieda Gormley and Javvy M Royle by taking a moment to vote online now. http://www.thebritishdesignawards.com/
