Kristina’s Summer Concert Series!

Kristina N. of Starworks NY sure loves a good concert (when you have a friend at LiveNation, who wouldnt?!?) Here, she writes about this week’s adventures…

In the spirit of summer, I decided to spend some of my hot summer nights on my own version of a summer concert series. My first stop was to  Rihanna’s Loud Tour at Nassau Coliseum on Tuesday night.  We had a surprise visit by Kanye West who performed “All Of The Lights” and “Run This Town”.   Rihanna’s outfit changes were often and elaborate to say the least. My personal favorite was her opening looking, a neon gem bikini.

Wednesday night, I got a chance to see U2 for the first time, along with fellow Starworker Dafna. We arrived at New Jersey’s New Meadowlands Stadium where nearly 100,000 people were in attendance. Let’s just say things got sweaty real quick! Beyond how amazing they sound live, I have to say I was blown away by the stage, which pulsed all night with TV monitors, lights and speakers.

Next week I am off to see Young Weezy aka Lil Wayne…stay tuned…

7 Questions with Borbay

This week we checked in with acclaimed (and recently married!)  location artist,  Borbay. Voted Time Out New York’s Most Creative New Yorker in 2009, he is truly leading the way with his creative and quirky art. Borbay is definitely someone to watch!

1. What is the first thing you do every morning?

Wake up around 8AM, brew a pot of super strong coffee, hit my computer, blogTweet, answer emails, then hit the canvas, hard.

2.  What is one of your favorite places to visit?

In the city? Chelsea Piers to play ice hockey with the men of TBD. The streets of Manhattan to paint and get nice, particularly The Guggenheim; down in TriBeCa with the BevForce peeps; and, formerly, Elaine’s on the Upper East Side. And, of course, Minnetonka or Nesconset to spend time with the family.

3.  Where is your favorite place in the city to drink/eat?

Don’t make me choose! Big, huge fan of Rathbones on the Upper East Side… it’s been one of my top watering holes since 2004. Walker’s in TriBeCa for sure — I used to work in advertising on Franklin Street, so it was a frequent lunch spot.

4.   What is the one book or song/album that changed your life?

While I read Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas at least five times a year, I’d have to say The Warhol Diaries by Warhol and Pat Hackett. It’s bigger than a Bible/Phonebook lovechild (was that wrong?), but this long-form blueprint for professional artists was worth it — Two Times.

5.  What is your favorite thing about your career?

Everything. Being my own boss. Creating something I believe in without compromise. Realizing my potential and knowing that if I fail, I failed — the flame burns out in my hand, and my hand alone.

6.  How does it feel to be married?

Marriage is amazing. Erin and I have lived together (in sin?) for three years before we tied the knot, so from a day-to-day perspective, it’s not a big change. Emotionally, there is a calm, warming feeling knowing you are in it for life. Big picture, our families are now one, and overall, there is a subtle but profound sense of indescribable closeness.

7.  What is one of the biggest goals you have not accomplished yet?

Do you have a few days to discuss this? Everything. Whatever comes my way as a result of day after day of hard work. I don’t covet any particular outcome because the universe is creative enough for this guy.

Last Weekend…

Katie C. gave her parents, in from London, the NYC tourist special… lunch at The Boathouse followed by a trip to the McQueen exhibit at the Met. On Saturday they dined at Waverly Inn and strolled the High Line. The weekend ended with brunch at Pastis and a Circle Line sightseeing trip including a great view of our Lady Liberty.

Lindsay S. was out east in the Hamptons making homemade pizzas and enjoying the incredible sunset!

Emily L. saw the one and only Paul McCartney at Yankee Stadium…even better, Billy Joel was a special guest!

Articles of note…

I think it’s safe to say we spend at least 40 minutes going through our blogrolls each morning…here are a few interesting things I wanted to share!

Resort collections showed most of June and while I havent had a chance to look through all of them, Vogue did me the favor and pulled together their favorite looks- personal favorites include Thakoon, Calvin Klein, Celine (obviously), Balenciaga and our very own Jonathan Saunders.

I get giddy when each fashion week rolls around- couture, RTW, men’s- for one reason and one reason only…Tommy Ton’s Street Style on Style.com – feast your eyes on the amazing off -the -runway looks from Paris.

Intermix recently launched a blog- woo hoo! Look out for guest editors, sneak peeks into new product, and tips for dining and entertainment near and around their different U.S. locations.

I really love Details magazine…this article in particular caught my eye…the conversation of cubicles has been a hot topic here at Starworks NY and the featured uber-chic version is exactly what we need!

Seems like everyone went to Berlin last week for Bread + Butter…maybe I’ll find my way out there next time. The Moment tells us about a sprawling new concept store that will definitely be on my list of must-sees.

Check out Conde Nast Traveler’s feature on the best places to eat on 11 Caribbean islands…just in case you still have your summer vacation to plan!
