Despite the heavy rain and thunder, Starworks took part in a heartfelt event last night! It was the 3rd Annual Smart Cookie Awards held at the Lincoln Jazz Center here in New York. Cookie Magazine celebrates women who are also mothers and promoters of philanthropy. Each year they hold this celebration to honor women- this year 7 specific women- who have surpassed the call of duty of being a mother, and helped thousands of those in need all across the world.

Uma Thurman (Room to Grow), Debra Messing (YouthAIDS), Deborah Koenigsberger (Hearts of Gold), Judy Woodruff (Kennedy Krieger Institute), Salma Hayek (UNICEF), Amy Eldridge (Love Without Boundaries), and Alicia Ely Yamin (Amnesty International’s Global Campaign for Human Dignity) were honored for their helping hands.

It was hard not to shed a tear in our wine glasses- as the honorees took to the stage to share their stories of need they have seen first-hand from China to our own New York neighborhoods. Cookie’s Editor-in-Chief, Pilar Guzman, whom is a mother herself was a mention in every acceptance speech for her contribution through Cookie to raise awareness to EVERYONE’S call of service. It was truly a rewarding experience that Starworks was lucky to share with Cookie.
