Queen: My Bicycle

Pia Denhe is an artist who shows at Deitch Gallery here in New York. She’s known for being inspired by famous female graphic moments, then recreating the scenario real life, and having a friend photograph it. Pia then paints the new photograph and holds a gallery exhibition.

The photo you see above is the recreation of Queens famous bicycle album photo. It was shot on a hot summer day in the Lower East Side park. I was phoned by my photographer friend, Matthu Placek (among a bevy of other cool chicks in NYC) to be part of this art installation. Quite an honor.

Best memory of the day? All of us actually rode our bicycles like a big gang through West Broadway and Canal Streets. I’ve never seen NYC Taxi Drivers brake so hard. It was like team streaking, but not really. Pretty cathartic.
