This morning I saw The Burning Plain with Charlize Theron and Guillermo Arriaga (writer of 21 Grams and Babel) making his directorial debut. The story was truly unique and captivating, assembled in a similar manner to Arriaga’s above mentioned features. It was smart, powerful and heartbreaking. Charlize was paralyzing, portraying a pained character consumed with guilt, and there were two newbies (J.D. Pardo and Jennifer Lawrence) who were undeniable breakouts.
